There’s a joke on the old BBC series, Coupling, where one of the actress sighs and says, “I always wanted to be French but I never had the opportunities.”  Despite the fact that my grandmother was from Martinique, I have come to accept the fact that I am not French.  But I also know that darling little French things make me unspeakably happy.
