One of the greatest gifts in my life has been learning how to make things.  My mother is a beautiful seamstress. My friend Jenny Bevill, who is a gifted artist, taught me how to quilt. Jacque Alexander, a photographer at St. Elmo’s Village in Los Angeles, taught me how to make photos and the list goes on.  In this video, Misty Copeland says, “I don’t even have an image in my head of what I remember a ballerina being or existing before I took a ballet class. Ballet was just the one thing that brought me to life.”  I talk a lot about”the creative life” and it sounds arduous or pretentious or hard.  But most of us create a little something every day: be it a meal or a painting, a dance or a story.  The act of making things brings us to life.
