When the Holidays Are Tough
Several years ago, my little brother died in a car accident, just a few weeks before Thanksgiving. I seriously thought the grief would kill me. Thanksgiving was wretched. Christmas was terrible. I felt out of synch and out of touch with everything and everyone around me. Somehow I made it through and eventually the holidays became joyful again.
I know the holidays are tough for some people. So I wanted to write a post about the book that has helped me heal the most: When Things Fall Apart, Heart Advice for Difficult Times, by Pema Chodron. Reading Pema, and for me, even better, listening to her on audio, was tremendously helpful. I re-read this book every single year.
If this holiday is tough for you, I send you my best wishes for peace and comfort. I’ve been there.
